Why Google thought Paytm is a 'gambling' app

On September 18, Google removed the digital payments app Paytm from its Play Store for a few hours, alleging violation of its policies. Google created the impression that Paytm was promoting ‘sports gambling’ through its app, hence it was removed as it is against Indian laws and Google’s policies. As per Paytm, the launch of its ‘Paytm Cricket League’ campaign where users collect cricket stickers and scratch cards to earn UPI cash backs is what triggered Google’s move. Hence, Paytm’s argument is ‘ How can UPI cashback be called an ‘online Norwegian Casino Online’ by Google?’. Paytm further claimed that Google itself is running a similar campaign through its ’Tez Shots’ game.
